FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A late run for the Benedict College Tigers helped to defeat Fort Valley State University, 68-62, on Saturday afternoon in a men's SIAC basketball game.
Benedict improves to 11-12, 7-7 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 5-17, 3-10 in the SIAC.
NyQuan McCombs led the Tigers with 16 points and six assists. 
Anthony Gomes added 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.
Gomes and McCombs scored or assisted on 14 of Benedict's first 18 points scored. A layup by 
Aboubacar Camara, with 3:24 left in the first half, gave the Tigers a 25-22 lead. A 10-2 run by Fort Valley State to end the half gave them a 32-27 advantage.
A 20-12 run by Fort Valley State to begin the second half allowed the Wildcats to take their largest lead of the game, 52-39, with 10:22 remaining. Benedict would answer with a 14-0 run to retake a 53-52 lead with 3:52 remaining in regulation.
The Tigers continued to play strong down the stretch and took their largest lead of the game, 66-56, with 21 seconds remaining in the game. Free throws from McCombs and 
Joseph Staton would secure the victory.
The Tigers led the way in bench points, 45-27, on Saturday afternoon. 
Benedict will travel to Clark Atlanta University on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
