Tajh Green scored 24 points and 
Malachi McCoy came up with a key offensive rebound down the stretch as the Benedict Tigers defeated Spring Hill College 87-80 in an SIAC contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
With the Tigers holding an 80-76 lead with a minute left in the game, McCoy grabbed an offensive rebound off a 
Timothy Bing Jr. miss and scored a layup to give the Tigers an 82-76 lead with 56 seconds left. McCoy then sealed the game with a layup with 16 seconds left to give the Tigers an 85-78 lead.
McCoy had an all-around game, scoring 10 points, grabbing a team-high nine rebounds, blocking four shots and recording four steals.
Bryson Gulley hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points. Bing added 10 points.
Benedict improves to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the SAIC. Spring Hill falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
The Badgers had a 27-26 lead in the first half before the Tigers scored 13 points in a row, capped by a 
Tyrese Mapp 3-pointer, to take a 39-27 lead. Benedict had a 44-37 lead at the break.
Benedict had a 48-39 lead early in the second half, but the Badgers came back to take a 58-57 lead. The game stayed close the rest of the way until Gully hit a 3-pointer to give the Tigers an 80-73 lead with 2:10 remaining. The Badgers answered with a 3-pointer, before McCoy scored off Bing's miss with 56 seconds remaining.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday with a non-conference road game against Claflin at 3 p.m.
