COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team powered their way to a pair of wins over Clark Atlanta University on Saturday afternoon in their home opener.
Benedict, now 4-0, opened the first game with five runs in the first inning behind a two-run triple by
Chesney Miller, and the Lady Tigers went on to take a 10-1 victory in five innings. The Lady Tigers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score 12 unanswered runs and take a 12-4 victory in five innings in the second game.
Deneisha Wooten had a two-run double in the first inning of the first game. The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the third inning on just one hit. Benedict closed out their scoring in the fourth when
Brianna Crosby drove in two runs on a double.
In the second game, Clark Atlanta, now 1-7, scored four runs in the first inning on two hits, three walks and a wild pitch.
Benedict put a run on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by
Zanila Booker. Benedict cut the lead to 4-3 with two runs in the second inning.
Ajah Gaston led off with a triple, and Miller followed with a double and scored on a throwing error.
The Lady Tigers took control with four runs in the third inning, scoring two runs on Clark Atlanta errors, an RBI double by Miller and an RBI single by
Miyah Rogers. Gaston added an RBI single in the fourth inning. Benedict closed out the game with four runs in the fifth inning on three hits and three Clark Atlanta errors.
Taylor McNeal had a triple and
Briana Curney had an RBI single.
Benedict and Clark Atlanta meet again on Sunday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Per SIAC guidelines, fans are not permitted.
