COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Taylor Wilson hit a one-out double to score two runs and cap off a seventh-inning rally as the Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated Clark Atlanta 8-7 in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
Benedict won the first game of the day 11-3 in five innings. The Lady Tigers remain unbeaten on the season, moving to 6-0 overall. Clark Atlanta falls to 1-9.
The Lady Tigers trailed 7-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Daisha Mitchell reached safely on a Clark Atlanta error.
Taylor McNeal laid down a perfect bunt and beat out the throw to first.
Zanila Booker followed with a deep ball to right field that brought home Mitchell, but McNeal was tagged out at the plate.
Deneisha Wooten walked and
Brianna Crosby was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wilson followed with her double to left field, bringing home the tying and winning runs.
Clark Atlanta jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, on two hits and a Benedict error. The Lady Tigers cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the second inning.
Ajah Gaston hit a two-run double and
Chesney Miller singled to drive in another run. The Lady Panthers added two more runs in the fourth inning for a 6-3 lead. Benedict cut the lead to 6-5 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wilson scored on a wild pitch, and Mitchell had an RBI double. Clark Atlanta made it 7-5 in the sixth, getting a two-out RBI double.
In the first game, Clark Atlanta started off with two runs in the first inning, but Benedict answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, then pushed across four runs in the second and four more in the third when Wooten had a three-run homer to left field. Miller stole home in the fifth for the final run and gave Benedict the eight-run cushion to end the game. Crosby went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the game.
The Lady Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Edward Waters College in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Per SIAC guidelines, fans are not permitted at the game.
