COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers used a 14-0 run in the second half and held off Salem University 84-82 in their final home game of the season on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Salem had a 56-54 lead with 14:23 left in the second half when the Tigers reeled off the next 14 points, holding Salem scoreless for the next five minutes, to take a 68-56 lead. Salem rallied back to take a 74-73 lead with 5:06 left to play, and the game stayed close the rest of the way. Salem had a 77-76 lead with 4:00 on the clock when 
Tajh Green scored to give the Tigers a 78-77 lead with 3:21 left, and they never trailed again. Two free throws by Green and another free throw by 
Jayden Lockett made it 81-77 with 1:34 remaining.
Salem hit a 3-pointer with 1:05 left to cut the lead to 81-80. 
Aboubacar Camara sealed the game with a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left to make it 83-80. Salem added a layup with 10 seconds left to make it 83-82, but 
Timothy Bing Jr. closed out the game with a  free throw with seven seconds left.
Benedict improves to 8-1 on the season. Salem falls to 5-6.
Tajh Green had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Tigers, while Lockett added 17 points. 
Jakobey Hitchens hit four 3-pointers and scored a season-high 16 points. 
Tyrese Mapp added 12 points and 
Jerome Bivins chipped in with 10 points.
Jordan Forbes led Salem with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Fonz Hale added 24 points.
The Tigers, who rank third in the nation in rebound margin, out-rebounded Salem 44-35, including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Benedict outscored Salem 17-6 in second-chance points.
Benedict will close out the regular season on Saturday with a road game against cross-street rival Allen University at 2 p.m.
