COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's track & field team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday at the USC Open and had a successful weekend.
Shemar Miller finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 7.09 meters (23 feet, 2 inches). He is currently ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II in the triple jump and No. 9 in the long jump, and is ranked No. 1 in the South Region in both events.
Shun Taylor had his season-best jump of 14.00 meters (45 feet, 11 inches) in the triple jump, finishing seventh. He also jumped 6.75 meters (22 feet, 1 inch) in the long jump, finishing seventh.
On the track,
Malcom Carter Jr. finished 15th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a new school record of 54.04, finishing behind a field of Division I runners. He also ran the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.99. He is currently ranked third in the NCAA South Region in the 400-meters hurdles and No. 14 in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Lirante Jackson ran 21.86 in the 200-meter dash and finished 18th overall. He is currently ranked No. 4 in the NCAA South Region.
Philip Jackson ran a personal-best time of 49.66 in the 400-meter dash to finish 26th overall. He is currently ranked No. 22 in the NCAA South Region.
Kevin Francis finished 22nd overall in the 110-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 15.64. He also ran a personal-best time of 56.45 in the 400-meter hurdles and finished 22nd. He is ranked No. 8 in the NCAA South Region in the 400-meter hurdles and No. 12 in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Devonta Newbold ran a season-best time of 1:59.00 in the 800-meter run.
Benedict's 4x100-meter A relay team of Taylor, Miller,
Josiah Atkins and
Lirante Jackson finished sixth with a season-best time of 41.28. They are ranked No. 3 in the NCAA South Region.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Newbold,
Philip Jackson, Carter and
Lirante Jackson finished fifth with a season-best time of 3:17.89. They are currently ranked No. 4 in the NCAA South Region and No. 1 in the SIAC.
