ATLANTA – The Benedict Tigers used a 16-0 run in the first half to build a big lead and went on to take an 81-74 victory over the Clark Atlanta University Panthers on Saturday in SIAC action.
The Panthers hit a 3-pointer for a 12-11 lead with 11:50 left in the first half. Clark Atlanta did not score again until 6:04 remaining, with Benedict holding a 27-12 lead. The Tigers held a 38-27 lead at the half.
Benedict built its lead to as much as 16 points, the last time at 59-43 after a 3-pointer by
Malachi McCoy. The Panthers were able to cut the lead to 79-74 after a 3-pointer with 49 seconds remaining.
Timothy Bing Jr. scored with 32 seconds left to close out the scoring.
Bing led the Tigers with 19 points.
Tajh Green added 15 points, while
Marshaun West had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. McCoy chipped in 12 points.
The Tigers improve to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta falls to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the SIAC.
Benedict is back in action on Monday at Fort Valley State at 7:30 p.m.
