JACKSON, Tenn. – The Benedict College men's basketball team won their ninth game in a row and remained unbeaten in SIAC play with a 54-51 victory over Lane College on Wednesday night.
Tajh Green led the Tigers with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Malachi McCoy also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Calvin McCutcheon added 10 points.
Lane had as much as an eight-point lead, 14-6, in the first half, but Benedict rallied to take a 24-23 lead on a 3-pointer by McCutcheon, and trailed 27-26 at the half.
The second half stayed close, with Benedict building its largest lead of the game, 43-37, on a jumper by
Tyrese Mapp. The Dragons took a 51-49 lead with 2:53 left to play, but did not score the rest of the way. The Tigers made five-of-six free throws down the stretch, including a pair by Nyquan McCombs with 13 seconds left, to seal the game.
Lane falls to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC.
The Tigers, now 10-3 overall and 7-0 in the SIAC, will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Edward Waters at 3 p.m.
