COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers held Rollins to just 26.8 percent shooting and cruised to a 76-49 victory in the South Region Tipoff Classic, hosted by Benedict in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena on Saturday.
The Tigers, now 1-1 on the season, went on a 14-2 first-half run to build a double-digit lead, had a 17-point lead at the half, and scored the first nine points of the second half.
Rollins falls to 1-1 on the season.
Brandon Smith led the Tigers with 19 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
Tim Moore added 16 points, while
Malachi McCoy (12 points) and
Brandon Beidleman (10 points) also reached double figures. McCoy and
Marshaun West had six rebounds each, as the Tigers out-rebounded the Tars 40-34. West also had a game-high seven assists.
The Tigers travel to take on Bluefield State next Saturday in Bluefield, West Virginia.
