COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers used an 18-2 second-half run to pull away from Allen University and defeat the Yellow Jackets 68-54 on Thursday night in Allen's John Hurst Adams Gym.
Allen scored eight straight points to tie the game at 38 with 13:59 left to play, but the Tigers pulled away for good by scoring the next seven points. After Allen scored to cut the lead to 45-50, the Tigers scored the next 11 points to take a 56-40 lead with 7:03 left to play after a tip-in by
Tyrese Mapp.
The Yellow Jackets got within 11 points, 58-47, with 4:26 left to play, but the Tigers answered with a dunk by
Malachi McCoy, and they held on for the win to improve to 17-5 overall. Allen falls to 5-16.
Timothy Bing Jr. led the Tigers with 18 points, while Mapp added 15 and recorded six steals.
Calvin McCutcheon scored 12 points and
Tajh Green added 11 points and blocked four shots. McCoy grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Tigers out-scored Allen 25-2 in fast-break points, and scored 30 points off Allen turnovers.
Benedict travels to take on Savannah State on Monday.
