ALBANY, Ga. –
Malachi McCoy had a double-double with a team-high 18 points and 13 rebounds to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 68-59 victory over Albany State in a men's SIAC basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.
Brandon Smith added 12 points and
Tim Moore chipped in 11 points for the Tigers, who improve to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the SIAC with their third straight win. Albany State falls to 3-14 overall and 3-7 in the SIAC.
The game was tight the first half, and
Gob Gabriel hit a 3-pointer with 1:04 left in the first half to tie the game at 30. The Tigers used a 6-0 run in the second half, capped by a dunk from McCoy, to take a 50-42 lead with 8:40 on the clock. After the Golden Rams cut the lead to 52-47 with 7:01 remaining, the Tigers scored the next six points to push the lead to 58-47.
Benedict had a 39-26 rebounding advantage, including an 18-8 advantage on the offensive side. The Tigers outscored Albany State 20-6 in second-chance points.
Benedict returns to action with a game at Fort Valley State on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
