COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers opened 2023 with a dominating 82-66 victory over Spring Hill College on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Asanti Price led the Tigers with 17 points, while
Dontavius King and
Marshaun West added 14 points each. King pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Tiger.
Benedict improves to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the SIAC. Spring Hill falls to 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the SIAC.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, taking a 29-12 lead after a dunk by King. The Badgers rallied to trim the lead to 34-32 with 5:17 left in the first half. Benedict scored the next 10 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Price, to push the lead back to double digits. Benedict took a 46-36 lead at the half.
Spring Hill cut the lead to 51-48 with 16:22 remaining in the second half before the Tigers scored the next seven points. After Spring Hill cut the lead to 71-60 with 4:11 remaining, the Tigers put the game away by scoring the next six points.
Benedict returns to action with a home game on Wednesday against Tuskegee at 7:30 p.m.
