SAVANNAH, Ga. – Benedict's six-game winning streak ended on Monday, as Savannah State took a 58-54 victory in a SIAC men's basketball contest.
 
The Tigers cut an 8-point second half deficit to one point, 51-50, with 3:09 remaining, but Savannah State hit a big 3-pointer with 2:20 left for a 56-52 lead. 
Brandon Smith scored on a layup, but the Tigers missed their final four field goals over the final two minutes of the game.
 
Benedict falls to 11-8 overall and 9-5 in the SIAC. Savannah State improves to 13-5 overall and 11-3 in the SIAC.
 
Dontavius King led the Tigers with nine points in the low-scoring game.

Asanti Price added eight points each.
 
Benedict out-shot Savannah State (40.5 percent to 38.5 percent), made more 3-pointers (8-4), and did better at the free-throw line (70.6 percent to 66.7 percent). Savannah State had a big advantage in points off turnovers, scoring 24 points off 24 Benedict turnovers. The Tigers scored eight points off 17 Savannah State turnovers.
 
Benedict returns home Saturday for a rematch against Savannah State at 3 p.m. to kick off a six-game home stand.
