COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers used an 9-0 second-half run to help pull away and avenge a close loss on Wednesday to Savannah State with a 69-64 victory on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
Benedict had a 34-31 lead at the half and had a 36-35 lead with 17:45 left in the game. The Tigers then scored the next nine points, capped off by a 3-pointer by Asanti Price, to take a 45-35 lead with 14:09 left in the game. Savannah State hit a 3-pointer to make it 49-45 with 9:05 left to play, but the Tigers responded by scoring the next eight points for a 57-45 lead with 5:20 left in the game.
 
Price led the Tiges with 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Brandon Smith added 14 points, and Malachi McCoy scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
 
Benedict improves to 12-8 overall and 10-5 in the SIAC. Savannah State, the current lead in the East Division, falls to 13-6 overall and 11-4 in the SIAC.
 
The Tigers are back in action on Monday, taking on Edward Waters at 7:30 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
