COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Brandon Smith scored a career-high 24 points, while
Brandon Beidleman dished out a career-high 13 assists as the Benedict College Tigers defeated Morehouse College 78-75 in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers improved to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 6-6 overall and 3-5 in the SIAC.
Smith hit five 3-pointers, including a 3-pointer with 3:08 left in the game to give the Tigers a 75-68 lead.
Malachi McCoy added 13 points and
Asanti Price chipped in 10 points.
Benedict had as much as a 16-point lead in the second half, 62-46 after a 3-pointer by
Marshaun West. The Maroon Tigers cut the lead to 70-66 with 4:01 left in the game. A dunk by
Tim Moore made it 72-66, but the Maroon Tigers followed with a layup with 3:30 remaining. Smith drilled a 3-pointer off an assist by Beidleman to give the Tigers a 75-68 lead.
Benedict jumped out to an early 10-2 lead as three of their first four shots were dunks. Morehouse came back to tie the game at 14. The Tigers went on a 9-0 run late in the first half to push the lead to 13 points, and finished the first half with a 45-36 lead.
Benedict is back in action on Saturday, when they travel to take on Albany State.
