ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Benedict College men's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season on Saturday with a 71-66 victory over Eckerd College in the EC Classic.
The Tigers pulled away from a close game in the second half, going on a 16-6 run to take their largest lead of the game, 62-55. The Tritons were able to cut the lead to 69-66 with 1:54 remaining, but
Tim Moore scored on a fast-break dunk and Eckerd missed three 3-pointers in the final minute.
Moore paced a balanced scoring attack for the Tigers with 16 points.
Asanti Price added 13 and
Gob Gabriel scored 11 points. Price grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
The Tigers, now 1-0 on the season, take on the University of Tampa on Sunday at 2 p.m.
