ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Benedict College Tigers placed five players in double figures and cruised to a 100-78 victory over Tampa in the second day of the EC Classic, hosted by Eckerd College.
Marshaun West came off the bench to score 20 points, while
Asanti Price had 19 points.
Tim Moore scored 15 points,
Calvin McCutcheon added 13 points and
Brandon Beidleman scored 11 points.
Benedict improves to 2-0 overall. Tampa falls to 1-1.
Tampa jumped out to an early 17-9 lead, but the Tigers scored the next eight points to tie the game. Tampa had a 35-28 lead with 7:39 left in the half when Price hit back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite a run for the Tigers. Benedict took a 36-35 lead on a fast-break dunk by
Tim Moore and never trailed again. Benedict finished off the 14-0 run with a layup by
Gob Gabriel.
Benedict pushed the lead to 57-44 at the half and kept a double-digit lead throughout the second half, building as much as a 27-point lead, 100-73, on a 3-pointer by
Brandon Smith.
The Tigers will play their home opener on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Paine College.
