COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers placed five players in double figures and remained unbeaten with a 90-75 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Tim Moore and
Gob Gabriel had 18 points each, while
Malachi McCoy added 14 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Asanti Price added 13 points and
Brandon Beidleman chipped in 10 points.
The Tigers improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the SIAC.
Benedict hit 10 3-pointers, with Gabriel connecting on four from long range. The Tigers shot a season-best 57.1 percent from the floor, scoring 44 points in the paint.
The Tigers had a 48-33 lead at the half, and increased the lead to 18, 54-36, on a dunk by McCoy early in the second half. The Magicians cut the lead to 59-54 with 10:58 left in the second half. Benedict went on a 17-5 run later in the second half to build the lead back to 18 points, 78-60, with 5:45 remaining. A dunk by Gabriel gave the Tigers their largest lead, 82-62, with 4:16 to play.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday with a road game at Central State University.
