COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Asanti Price hit a deep 3-pointer with 1:37 left in the game to give the 12
th-ranked Benedict College Tigers a four-point lead, and then sealed the game with two free throws with under a second left as they defeated Miles College 70-67 on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena in a SIAC men's basketball contest.
Price led the Tigers with 17 points, while
Malachi McCoy added 15 points.
Gob Gabriel and
Tim Moore added 10 points each.
Benedict remains unbeaten at 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC. The Golden Bears fall to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC.
Miles had a 61-56 lead with 4:29 left in the game, but the Tigers went on a 10-1 run, with Price's long 3-pointer capping the run. McCoy also drained a 3-pointer in the run. The Golden Bears hit a pair of free throws with 35 seconds left, but McCoy scored a layup with seven seconds left to make it 68-64. Alvin Miles hit a 3-pointer for the Golden Bears with two seconds left to make it 68-67, but Price was immediately fouled and sank both free throws for the final score.
The Tigers are now off for the Christmas break, and will be back in action on Jan. 4 with a road game at Spring Hill College.
