ATLANTA – The Benedict Tigers used a 12-3 run in the second half to pull away from a close game and went on to defeat the Morehouse Maroon Tigers 69-63 on Saturday afternoon in a SIAC men's basketball game.
Tim Moore scored 25 points, matching his season high, to lead the Tigers. He also pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds.
Brandon Smith added 19 points, with 14 coming in the second half.
Benedict had a 28-26 lead at the half, and had a 47-43 lead midway through the second half. Moore scored six points during the ensuing 12-3 run. A layup by
Deshawn Bartley capped off the run, giving Benedict its largest lead, 59-46 with 6:05 left to play.
Morehouse was able to cut the lead to 67-62 with 17 seconds left, but Benedict added a pair of free throws by Smith to seal the game.
Benedict improves to 17-9 overall and 15-5 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 16-9 overall and 13-7 in the SIAC.
Benedict will wrap up the regular season on Monday at Clark Atlanta for a 7:30 p.m. game.
