COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers opened the 2023 softball season on Monday at Columbia College, giving Coach Brianna Billie an 8-3 victory in her collegiate coaching debut.
Columbia College won the second game of the doubleheader, 9-2.
In the first game, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead as
Tanijah Washington opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring home
Tre'sor Eady, and then had a two-run single in the fifth inning to finish with three RBIs in the game. Eady and
Chesney Miller each had three hits, with Eady driving home a run on a single to center field in the sixth inning.
Olivia Townsend picked up the pitching win, giving up six hits and striking out four. She helped her cause by driving in a pair of runs.
In the second game, Columbia College hit a three-run homer in the third inning and never trailed. Benedict was held to five hits. Eady drove in both Benedict runs on a two-run double in the fourth inning.
