COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers swept a doubleheader from Winston-Salem State on Wednesday at Tiger Field.
The Lady Tigers rallied from a 3-2 deficit to take a 5-3 victory in the first game, then scored five runs in the fifth inning of the second game to win 6-2. Benedict improves to 7-14 overall and 2-5 in the SIAC. Winston-Salem State falls to 4-6 overall.
In the first game, Benedict scored first on a triple from Chesney Miller, sending Tanijah Washington home in the second inning. Briana Curney had a double to center field to bring home Ariana Ellis, and Tre'sor Eady. Winston-Salem State scored three runs, including a homer.
In the second game, T'yannah Lake had a homer in the fifth, her seventh of the season, sending teammates Taylor McNeal and Ariana Ellis home. The Lady Tigers would follow up with two more runs after another homer from Tre'sor Eady. Olivia Townsend went the distance, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out five.
Benedict will be back Friday afternoon with a doubleheader against St.Augustine's starting at 1 p.m. at Tiger Field.
