COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Chesney Miller drove home the go-ahead run with a single, and
T'yannah Lake and
Taylor Wilson each had home runs as the Benedict College Lady Tigers took a 7-6 softball victory over Fort Valley State on Thursday at Tiger Field.
Benedict and Fort Valley State also completed the game from March 25 that was suspended due to darkness with one out in the top of the seventh. Fort Valley State scored one run in the top of the seventh, but Benedict held on for an 11-7 victory.
The Lady Tigers improve to 19-21 overall, while Fort Valley State falls to 15-18.
Fort Valley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Lady Tigers rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-2 lead.
Deyonce Lewis had an RBI single and Lake blasted a two-run homer to left field.
Wilson had a solo homer in the fourth inning to give Benedict a 4-2 lead. The Lady Wildcats tied the game with two runs in the third, then took a 5-4 lead on a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Miller singled, then later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Miller had another RBI single to give Benedict a 6-5 lead.
Olivia Townsend had an RBI double in the sixth for Benedict's final run. Fort Valley State cut the lead to 7-6 on a fielding error. Townsend came in to pitch in the seventh to earn the save.
The Lady Tigers are back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Clark Atlanta at 1 p.m.
