AUGUSTA, Ga. – Benedict rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 12-10 victory over Paine College in the second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader to earn a split.
Paine won the first game 13-5.
Olivia Townsend went 3-for-3 with one RBI in the first game. Benedict was held to six hits in the contest.
In the second game,
Briana Curney went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Chelsey Gotel went 3-for-5 with one RBI. Townsend went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Paine had a 9-7 lead heading into the seventh inning.
Taylor McNeal and
Tre'sor Eady led off the seventh with back-to-back singles. McNeal later scored on a passed ball. Eady scored the tying run on a single by
Ariana Ellis.
Chesney Miller scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Curney.
Deyonce Lewis hit a triple to score Ellis. Gotel hit a single to score Lewis to make it 12-7.
Paine scored one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Benedict, now 20-25 on the season, will play Edward Waters at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Tiger Field in their final home game.
