ORANGEBURG, S.C. –
Calvin McCutcheon scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds as the eighth-ranked Benedict College Tigers remained unbeaten on the season with a 81-73 victory over Claflin on Thursday.
Claflin had a 44-42 lead early in the second half when
Brandon Smith hit a 3-pointer to give the Tigers the lead for good. McCutcheon followed with a 3-pointer, then sank a pair of free-throws and drilled another 3-pointer to give Benedict a 53-46 lead with 14:26 left to play.
The Tigers improved to 13-0 on the season. Claflin falls to 6-6.
Benedict placed six players in double figures, with
Marshaun West scoring 17 points.
Tim Moore,
Asanti Price and
Malachi McCoy all scored 11 points each, while
Brandon Smith chipped in 10 points.
Benedict travels to Clark Atlanta on Saturday.
