COLUMBIA, S.C. – Miles College held Benedict College to 32.6 percent shooting and a season-low 46 points as the Golden Bears took a 57-46 victory in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict falls to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the SIAC.
Jordan Butler, in his first game of the season for Benedict, came off the bench to score 16 points to lead the Tigers.
Tariq Shepherd added 11 points.
The Golden Bears opened the game with a 3-pointer and never trailed, although Benedict stayed close in the low-scoring contest. Miles led 35-23 at the half. Miles had a 30-28 lead with 14:03 left in the game before the Golden Bears scored the next six points, and built a 10-point lead, 39-29, after a 3-pointer with 10:03 left to play.
Cadarius Baggett hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to seven points, but that was as close as the Tigers would get the rest of the way.
Benedict returns to action on Monday night with a home contest against Spring Hill College at 7:30 p.m.
