MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Benedict College men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season, as the Tigers edged LeMoyne-Owen College 66-65 on Monday night in a SIAC matchup.
Tariq Shepherd hit two free throws with four seconds left to give the Tigers the victory. Benedict improves to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen falls to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC.
The Magicians had a 63-58 lead with 3:12 left in the game. The Tigers held LeMoyne-Owen to 1-of-3 shooting over the final three minutes, and the Magicians committed three fouls, including fouling
Parker Grant on a 3-point attempt. Grant hit all three free throws to cut the lead to 63-62 with 1:46 left to play.
The Magicians had a 65-64 lead, but Benedict's
Zaire Rogers blocked a LeMoyne-Owen shot with 30 seconds left, leading to Shepherd's two free throws.
Grant led the Tigers with 14 points, while Rogers added 12 points and Shepherd chipped in 11 points.
Benedict returns home to take on Miles College in another SIAC contest on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m.
