ANDERSON, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team dropped four games in the Trojan Early Bird Classic.
On Friday, Benedict fell to host Anderson University 8-1 as the Lady Tigers were held to two hits.
In the second game of the day, Southern Wesleyan scored nine runs on five hits and two Benedict errors in the fourth inning to take the lead and held off a Benedict rally for a 12-10 victory. The Lady Tigers had a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Benedict rallied with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 10-10. Southern Wesleyan scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Benedict error, and added another run on a sacrifice fly.
On Saturday, Anderson held the Lady Tigers to two hits once again in a 12-0 victory.
Southern Wesleyan had an inside-the-park homer in the first inning and a grand slam in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead and went on for a 12-4 victory.
T'yannah Lake went 5-for-13 at the plate with three doubles and an RBI during the tournament.
Olivia Townsend went 5-for-10 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
The Lady Tigers, now 0-6 on the season, travel across town to face Columbia International on Thursday in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
