COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team dropped a doubleheader against Columbia International University on Thursday at the CIU softball field.
Benedict lost the first game 4-0, as the Rams held the Lady Tigers to one hit and struck out 11 batters. Benedict battled back in the second game, rallying with four runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 9-9, before CIU scored a game-winning run in the sixth inning for a 10-9 victory.
Benedict jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second game on a two-run homer by
Tre'sor Eady in the first inning. The Rams scored six runs in the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the third inning as
Kayla Hunt had an RBI double and
Ariana Ellis had an RBI single.
CIU scored three runs in the third to make it 9-5. In the top of the fourth, Benedict's first three batters walked to load the bases and
T'yannah Lake had an RBI single.
Taylor Wilson had an RBI single, and Hunt walked with the bases loaded. Ellis followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 9-9.
Columbia International took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
Taylor Gilbert had a fifth-inning double for Benedict's only hit in the first game.
The Lady Tigers, now 0-8 on the season, open SIAC play by hosting Albany State in a three-game series, starting with a doubleheader on Feb. 24.
