COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Kenyan Conner Jr. hit a walk-off home run in the 10
th inning to give the Benedict College baseball team their first win of the season, 7-6 over Lane College to wrap up their SIAC baseball series on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Tigers rallied from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game with two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth.
In the 10th inning, the Dragons had a runner on second base with two outs. An error allowed the runner to advance to third, but the Tigers were able to tag him out at home plate.
Conner, pinch-hitting, was the first batter for the Tigers in the bottom of the 10
th. He hit a blast to left field on the first pitch to end the game.
Jayden Jones hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning,
Jamell Mitchell Jr. had an RBI single, then
Preston Hall-Pointer had an infield single to score the tying run.
Kent Johnson picked up the win on the mound. He pitched five innings in relief, allowing just one hit, struck out three and walked five.
Lane falls to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC. Benedict, now 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC, will play a three-game conference series next weekend against Tuskegee at Tiger Field. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.
