COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team opened the 2024 season on Tuesday, dropping a non-conference doubleheader to Columbia College at their Sutton Softball Complex.
Columbia College won the first game 6-1, then took the second game 8-2.
In the first game,
Tanijah Washington hit a single to left field with the bases loaded and one out.
Shamaria Dupree scored, and
T'yannah Lake was thrown out at home plate. Benedict had three hits the rest of the game and committed four errors.
Benedict got on the board early again in the second game. With runners on second and third and two outs,
Tre'sor Eady singled to center field to score Dupree in the top of the first inning for Benedict. Columbia College scored five runs in the sixth inning to pull away from a 3-1 game. The Lady Tigers added a run in the top of the seventh inning as Washington had a single, and later scored on a fielder's choice and Columbia College error.
The Lady Tigers, now 0-2 on the season, travel to take on Anderson University on Friday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
