FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State swept a SIAC softball doubleheader over Benedict College on Saturday.
FVSU won the first game 8-0, holding the Lady Tigers to just three hits. The Lady Wildcats scored 12 runs in the final two innings to take the second game 16-8.
In the second game, Benedict scored four runs in the third inning as
T'yannah Lake hit a bases-loaded single with two outs to score two runs, and two more runs scored on a FVSU error. The Lady Tigers increased their lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning. Two runs scored on an error, and Lake had an RBI single.
The Lady Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Benedict's lead to 7-4. The Lady Tigers added a run in the fifth inning on a single by
Tre'sor Eady. Fort Valley State scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 8, then scored eight runs on four hits and a pair of Benedict errors in the sixth inning.
Benedict (8-19 overall, 5-9 in the SIAC) and Fort Valley State (16-12 overall, 10-3 SIAC) will meet for a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the third game of their series.
