COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers rallied in both games to sweep a doubleheader over Savannah State University in SIAC softball action on Friday afternoon at Tiger Field, then dropped the third game of the series on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers scored 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings of the first game to take an 18-11 victory.
Jasmine Cadore hit a one-out single to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh in the second game for a 9-8 victory.
Benedict honored four seniors on Saturday, but Savannah State spoiled the Senior Day by taking a 7-1 victory.
The Lady Tigers trailed 11-7 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning of the first game on Friday. Benedict scored five runs in the fifth inning as
Shamaria Dupree had an RBI single and Cadore drove in two runs on a single to give Benedict a 12-11 lead. The Lady Tigers pushed across six more runs in the sixth inning.
T'yannah Lake had an RBI single,
Taylor Gilbert drove in a run with a single and
Heaven Strickland had an RBI single.
On Saturday, Savannah State scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second for a 7-0 lead. Benedict scored a run in the seventh inning on a Savannah State throwing error.
Benedict goes to 11-25 overall and 7-14 in the SIAC, while Savannah State goes to 12-24 overall and 8-13 in the SIAC as the two teams are in a tight race for the fourth and final spot from the East Division for the SIAC Championship Tournament. The Lady Tigers host USC Aiken at 1 p.m. on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader, then wrap up the regular season next weekend at Clark Atlanta.
