JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters University swept a three-game SIAC baseball series over the Benedict College Tigers.

Edward Waters won Saturday's doubleheader 11-5 and 26-11, then took a 17-7 victory on Sunday.

Benedict had a 5-4 lead going into the eighth inning in the first game, but Edward Waters scored seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. They took the lead on a three-run homer.

For the Tigers, Frankey Moree had a three-run homer in the fourth inning, and Kent Johnson had a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give Benedict a 5-1 lead.

In the second game, Edward Waters scored nine runs in the first inning, and had a 15-1 lead heading into the fourth inning. Benedict rallied to score 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning as Jalen McDuffie, Moree, Jayden Jordan, Anthony Makinster, and Taj Bates all had RBI singles. Edward Waters responded with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and added six more runs in the fifth inning.

In Sunday's third game, Benedict jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Bates drove in both runs with a first-inning single. Edward Waters scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to make it 6-2. Benedict took the lead by scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning as Johnson and Bates both walked with the bases loaded, and McDuffie drove in a pair of runs with a double to make it 7-6.

Edward Waters regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then added seven more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and tacked on another run in the seventh.

Benedict, now 14-22 overall and 10-20 in the SIAC, will play a non-conference game against Morris College on Tuesday, then wrap up the regular season with a three-game series next weekend at home against Savannah State.
