COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers used a big 19-3 run late in the second half to claw back from a 21-point second-half deficit, but it wasn't enough as Albany State was able to hang on for a 75-68 victory in a SIAC men's basketball game on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Rams had a nine-point lead at the half, 40-31, and built the lead to 60-39 with 12:33 remaining in the contest. The Tigers scored the next nine points to make it 60-48 after a fast-break layup by
Landon Jeffries. After a 3-pointer by the Rams, the Tigers scored 10 unanswered points to make it 63-58 with 6:10 left to play.
The Rams scored a pair of field goals, including a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 10 points and hung on for the victory.
Benedict wrapped up the 2025 portion of the schedule at 4-4 overall and 4-4 in the SIAC. Albany State improved to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in the SIAC.
Caleb Hymon scored a season-high 18 points for the Tigers, while
Landon Jeffries added 11 points.
Benedict shot a season-high 59.2 percent (29-of-49) from the field, but shot a season-low 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from the free-throw line.
The Tigers take their holiday break and will resume the schedule on Jan. 3 with a road trip to Clark Atlanta.
