COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict had a one-point lead at halftime, but Allen outscored the Tigers 32-24 in the second half as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Tigers 59-52 in a SIAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in Allen's John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
The Tigers shot 30 percent (9-of-30), including missing all 11 3-point attempts, in the second half. Benedict had a 30-27 lead early in the second half, but Allen scored the next eight points, and held as much as a nine-point lead, 43-34, with 12:04 left to play.
Benedict was able to cut the lead to 50-46 with 5:43 remaining, but Allen scored back-to-back field goals to build an eight-point lead with 3:09 on the clock and Benedict couldn't get closer than six points the rest of the way.
Caleb Hymon led the Tigers with 11 points, while
Cadarius Baggett and
Donte Whymns added 10 points each.
Benedict returns to action next Saturday with a road trip to Savannah State.
