FORT VALLEY, Ga. –
Caleb Hymon scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Benedict College Tigers defeated Fort Valley State 65-53 in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Tuesday night.
The Tigers used a 14-2 run early in the second half to take the lead for good. Fort Valley State hit a 3-pointer for a 35-30 lead with 18:25 left in the second half. The Tigers scored the next nine points for a 39-35 lead. After a FVSU basket, the Tigers added another five points on a 3-pointer by Hymon and a jumper by
Tariq Shepherd for a 44-37 lead with 13:27 remaining.
After the Wildcats cut the lead to 44-41, Benedict scored the next nine points, six coming from Hymon, to push the lead to 12 points, 53-41, with 6:31 left in the game.
Cadarius Baggett added 11 points for the Tigers, who improve to 5-20 overall and 5-13 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 10-16 overall and 9-9 in the SIAC.
Benedict returns to action on Saturday, hosting rival Allen at 3 p.m. as part of Reunion Weekend.
