COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers pounded out 25 hits and scored 42 runs in a non-conference doubleheader sweep over Claflin University on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Tigers hit three home runs, including a pair from
Carson Fellows who had six RBIs, in a 31-13 victory in the first game. In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to a 5-1 lead, then pushed across four runs in the sixth inning after Claflin had trimmed the lead to 7-5 for an 11-5 victory.
Benedict improves to 5-2 with their fifth straight win. Claflin falls to 4-5-1.
The Tigers collected 18 hits in the first game off four Claflin pitchers. Fellows was 2-for-4 with six RBIs, with both of his hits home runs.
Jonathan Olmedo had a solo home run in the seven-run second inning. He also had a two-run double in the nine-run sixth inning.
Kenyan Conner Jr. went 3-for-6 with four RBIs.
Jose Gil went 3-for-5 with one RBI. Benedict scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 22-6.
In the second game, Olmedo went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Haley went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, with his three-run homer in the sixth inning.
The Tigers travel to Jackson, Tenn., to play a three-game conference series against Lane College this weekend.
