JACKSON, Tenn. – The Benedict College baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning to defeat Lane College 10-9 in the first game of their SIAC series on Saturday.
Lane won the second game of Saturday's doubleheader 12-8, then won the third game of the series on Sunday, 12-6.
In Saturday's first game, Lane had a 7-6 lead heading into the ninth inning.
Juan Guardado drew a two-out bases-loaded walk to tie the game.
Justin Murray reached on an error to score the go-ahead run.
Cameron Haley then hit a two-run single to make it 10-7. Lane hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to make it 10-9, but the Dragons left two runners on base and the Tigers held on for the win.
Haley had a two-run homer in the second inning and finished with four RBIs in the game.
Jonathan Olmedo had a two-run double in the eighth inning to cut Lane's lead to 7-6.
In Saturday's second game, the Tigers had an 8-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Lane scored six runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and scored four runs in the sixth to pull out the victory.
Kenyan Conner Jr. went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Haley drove in two more runs.
In Sunday's third game, Benedict tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning when Conner scored on a passed ball. Lane took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and added five more runs in the sixth for a 12-5 lead. The Tigers scored a run on a Lane error in the eighth inning.
Guardado had a three-run homer in the fourth inning.
Isaiah Canty had three hits.
Benedict, now 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the SIAC, has a home three-game SIAC series next week against Edward Waters at Tiger Field. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.
