JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Benedict scored four runs on five hits in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 victory over Edward Waters in the second game of their SIAC softball doubleheader on Friday.
Edward Waters won the first game 3-1, holding the Lady Tigers to three hits.
In the second game, Edward Waters scored the game's first run in the fourth inning on a walk, then added another run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt. In the sixth,
Heaven Strickland and
Megan Blanks singled, and
Shamaria Dupree followed with an RBI single for Benedict's first run.
Jaiara Ruffin then singled to score Blanks to tie the game.
Cayla Crooks hit a double to center field to score two runs.
Edward Waters cut the lead to 4-3 with one run in the seventh.
Benedict (12-13 overall, 7-10 in the SIAC) and Edward Waters (19-18 overall, 11-6 SIAC) will face off in the third game of their conference series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
