COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Juan Guardado hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to help lift the Benedict College baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Morehouse College in a SIAC contest on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Benedict got on the board first in the first inning when
Isaiah Canty walked, stole second and third, and came home on a fielder's choice. Morehouse tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Benedict took the lead when
Jaquez Akins tripled and scored on a passed ball.
In the seventh inning, Guardado hit a two-out, two-run homer to left field to make it 4-1. Morehouse hit a solo home run, and then added another run on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-3.
Tymon Holloman came in relief to pitch the ninth inning and put Morehouse down in order to earn the save.
Akins,
Kenyan Conner Jr., and
Yosmill Diaz all had two hits to lead the Tigers.
Benedict (11-9 overall, 9-9 SIAC) and Morehouse (13-13 overall, 9-10 SIAC) will continue their SIAC series with a doubleheader on Sunday. The start of the first game has been moved up to 10 a.m. to try and beat the forecasted Sunday afternoon rain.
