COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College cheerleaders are accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year for female cheerleaders, male lifters, male tumblers and mascot.

Tryouts will be held on April 4-5, 2025. The first practice will be held in the Benjamin E. Mayes Human Resource Center (HRC) on April 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. The evening session will consist of cheer/chant and dance material, and the Saturday session will consist of jumps, tumbling skills, and participating in a stunt session.  All those interested in trying out for the 2025-2026 cheerleading squad should be on time for both sessions.   
 
Incoming freshmen for the 2025-26 school year are welcome to participate in the tryouts, but are not required. Incoming freshmen can submit an application and a video by April 1.
 
Benedict College has two cheerleading squads. The Gold squad consists of 16 cheerleaders for football, men's basketball and other teams. The Gold squad also makes regular appearances representing the College at alumni, athletic, charitable and public relations activities. The Purple squad (freshmen) composed of ten cheerleaders who cheers at all the women's and men's volleyball games, and other games. The Purple Squad also makes regular appearances representing the College at alumni affairs, athletic, charitable and public relations activities. The team is also made up of male lifters, tumblers and the mascot.
 
All applicants must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, be a full-time student, have a current physical and proof of medical insurance.
