COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict Tigers held Kentucky State to 28 percent shooting, including 12 percent in the first half, and defeated the Thorobreds 64-46 in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Friday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers limited the Thorobreds to just four field goals in the first 20 minutes (4-of-33), to take a 25-16 lead at the half. After Kentucky State cut Benedict's lead to 39-36 with 12:02 left to play, the Tigers got a layup by
Cole White to start a seven-point run. Another layup by White capped off the run and gave Benedict a 46-36 lead. Benedict closed out the game connecting on nine of their final 11 field goals.
Kameron Foman led the Tigers with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Caleb Hymon hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points.
Malachi Chavis and White each added 11 points.
Benedict improves to 8-8 overall and 8-8 in the SIAC. Kentucky State falls to 4-13 overall and 4-10 in the SIAC.
Benedict takes to the road to take on LeMoyne-Owen College on Thursday and Lane College next Saturday. The next home game is Thursday, Feb. 5 against Miles College.
