COLUMBIA, S.C. – Allen University hit a 3-pointer midway through the second half to take the lead and held on in a close-fought contest to defeat the Benedict College Tigers 69-60 in a SIAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
A 3-pointer by
Caleb Hymon, one of two seniors honored before the game, cut the lead to 51-50 with 4:13 left in the game. The Yellow Jackets scored the next eight points for a 59-50 lead with 2:13 remaining.
Benedict was able to get within five points three times in the final minute, but could never get any closer. Allen improves to 5-16 overall and 4-15 in the SIAC.
Hymon scored 12 points to lead the Tigers, who fall to 10-11 overall and 10-11 in the SIAC.
Jordan Brewer and
Kameron Foman had 11 points each.
Benedict is back in action on Monday, hosting Edward Waters in their final home game of the regular season.
