Hot-Shooting Tigers Sink Spring Hill, 84-71

MOBILE, Ala. – The Benedict College Tigers matched their season high in points and shot 56 percent from the floor to defeat Spring Hill College 84-71 in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Thursday night.
 
The 84 points was the most points for the Tigers since scoring 84 points in an overtime victory over Central State on Nov. 20. Landon Jeffries scored 20 points, his highest total since scoring 22 points in that victory over Central State.
 
Benedict shot 55.9 percent (33-of-59) from the field, their second-highest percentage, trailing the 59.2 percent in a loss to Albany State on Dec. 19.
 
Jeffries was one of four Benedict players to reach double figures. Cristian Willis scored 11 points, while Tareeq Anderson and Kameron Foman added 10 points each. Foman grabbed 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.
 
Spring Hill jumped out to an early 14-7 lead, but the Tigers stormed back to take a 12-point lead, 35-23, after a Caleb Hymon 3-pointer with 5:14 left in the first half. Benedict had a 42-32 lead at the half.
 
The Tigers built as much as a 19-point lead, 70-51, with 8:09 left in the game. Spring Hill got to within nine points, 74-65, with 4:32 remaining, but Jeffries hit two free throws and followed with a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 14 points, 79-65, and the Tigers maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
 
Benedict improves to 11-12 overall and 11-12 in the SIAC. Spring Hill falls to 4-22 overall and 4-18 in the SIAC.
 
The Tigers will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Albany State for a 3 p.m. contest.
