COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers dropped a doubleheader to cross-town rival Columbia College on Monday afternoon in a pair of non-conference softball games at Tiger Field.
Columbia College held off a late Benedict rally to take an 11-7 victory in the first game. Columbia College scored eight runs in the third inning to take a 14-8 victory in the second game, which was suspended in the fourth inning due to darkness.
The Koalas had a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning of the first game. The Lady Tigers scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, with
Taylor Chambliss hitting a two-run homer. Columbia College added a run in the sixth, then Benedict scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 8-7. Chambliss blasted another two-run homer.
Columbia College added three more runs in the seventh.
Alexis Gatlin had a pair of RBI singles.
In the second game, Benedict jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning. Chambliss had another two-run homer, her third of the day.
The Koalas, now 2-2 on the season, scored five runs in the second and added eight more in the third to build a 14-3 lead. Benedict scored five runs in the bottom of the third, as
Myia Lambert and
Alexis Gatlin had back-to-back home runs.
Teonia Johnson also had a two-run single.
Benedict, now 0-4 on the season, returns to action next Monday, hosting Coker College in a non-conference doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
