GARDENDALE, Ala. – The Benedict College softball team won two games on Thursday on the final day of the SIAC Crossover Tournament and went 3-3 overall during the three-day tournament.
The Lady Tigers opened the crossover tournament with a dominating 12-1 victory in five innings over LeMoyne-Owen College on Tuesday. Benedict pounded out 16 hits, while limiting LeMoyne-Owen to just four hits.
Alexis Gatlin went 3-for-3, while
Cayla Crooks,
Myia Lambert,
Hope Gunn and
Alaina Harvey all had two hits. Lambert drove in three runs, two coming on a second-inning home run.
Later Tuesday, Benedict dropped a 15-5 decision to Tuskegee. On Wednesday, Benedict lost both of its games, falling to Miles 9-0 and Spring Hill 6-3.
Benedict opened Thursday's action with an 11-7 victory over Lane. Benedict scored four runs in the second inning, and tied the game at 5-5 with a run in the third. The Lady Tigers scored six runs in the fourth inning to take command of the game. Harvey had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs.
Mikaila Rodgers and
Elisha Ramirez both went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Lady Tigers wrapped things up with a 9-7 victory over Kentucky State. The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead.
Taylor Gilbert hit an RBI double to tie the game at 7, and
Shamaria Dupree brought home Gilbert for the go-ahead run with a single.
Jasmine Cadore hit an RBI single to make it 9-7.
Tamia Daniels went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers. Dupree went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Ramirez went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Benedict, now 5-18 overall and 3-12 in the SIAC, will play a non-conference doubleheader at Columbia International University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
