SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State took the deciding game in their SIAC series against the Benedict Tigers, taking a 9-5 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Benedict took a 2-1 lead in the third inning after
Joshua Medina hit a two-run double.
Savannah State tied the game in the fourth inning. Benedict took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
Christopher Trujillo Ruiz singled, stole second base, and came home on an RBI single by Medina.
Savannah State (13-11 overall, 10-5 SIAC) tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, then scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for an 8-3 lead.
The Tigers (10-7 overall, 8-7 SIAC) cut the lead to 8-5 in the seventh inning.
Jaquez Akins led off with a solo homer. Ruiz singled, and later came home on a groundout by
Jim Johnson.
Medina went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Tigers at the plate.
Jonathan Olmedo went 2-for-3, while Ruiz went 2-for-5.
Benedict will travel to Memphis, Tenn., next weekend for a three-game conference series against LeMoyne-Owen.
