COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team picked up their first wins of the season, cruising to a pair of lopsided victories over Voorhees on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Lady Tigers won the first game 10-2 in six innings, then erupted for 21 runs in the second game for a 21-2 victory in a game shortened to five innings.
Benedict moves to 2-12 on the season, while Voorhees falls to 0-13.
Myia Lambert went 3-for-3 and scored three runs in the first game.
Shamaria Dupree,
Cayla Crooks, and
Elisha Ramirez all had two hits. Crooks, Ramirez,
Alexis Gatlin and
Mikaila Rodgers all drove in two runs.
Hope Gunn allowed just three hits and struck out six working in the circle.
In the second game, Benedict scored 17 runs in the third inning to take a 20-1 lead. Crooks went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, and Rodgers also went 4-for-4 with one RBI, while Lambert went 3-for-4.
Taylor Gilbert drove in four runs, while
Jasmine Cadore drove home three runs on a pair of hits, including a solo home run.
Kayla Hunt picked up the win in the circle, allowing just three hits.
Benedict returns to action on Friday with a 2 p.m. single game against Clark Atlanta. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.
