COLUMBIA, S.C. – Clark Atlanta claimed both games of a softball doubleheader on Saturday to sweep the conference series over the Benedict College Lady Tigers.
Clark Atlanta scored five runs in the third inning of the first game and held on for a 9-5 victory. Clark Atlanta limited Benedict to one hit in the second game to take an 11-0 victory in five innings.
The Lady Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the first game as
Alexis Gatlin hit an RBI single. Clark Atlanta pulled ahead in the top of the third inning. The Lady Tigers cut the lead to 5-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Myia Lambert hit an RBI double and Gatlin brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.
Clark Atlanta added three more runs in the fourth inning to make it 8-3. Benedict scored a pair of runs in the bottom half as
Shamaria Dupree and Lambert both had RBI singles. Clark Atlanta added a run in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Clark Atlanta (10-11 overall, 3-6 SIAC) scored four runs in the first and seven more in the second for an 11-0 lead. Dupree had Benedict's only hit, a single in the third inning.
Benedict (2-15 overall, 0-9 SIAC) will travel to Alabama next week to compete in the SIAC Crossover Tournament.
